Welcome to Saussines
Do you enjoy walking? Saussines has a well-marked hiking path. You will find the map on a sign in front of the school. This takes you through the natural scrubland environment around the village where you will discover six stone « capitelles » (above), shelters built by farmers or shepherds during the last century. (Guide, in French: FRH-Capitelles de la Bénovie)
Are you looking for a wine cellar? Saussines has historically been a wine-growing village. Today there are fewer and fewer active vintners, but the village is proud of its two wine producers who will welcome your visit to their cellars. Mr Marc PAUL, 38 rue des aires (04 67 86 69 46), and the BEAUVIVRE family, avenue de Boisseron (04 67 86 50 32).
Do you practice horseback riding? Contact the Celtis riding stables in Saussines: Amandine LAMBERT (06 70 87 74 56), mail to: firstname.lastname@example.org. Their website, in French:
If your visit coincides with the town fair, at the end of May each year, you may join the villagers to watch the bull runs, to eat, drink and dance to live music on the town square.
Saussines is only a five-minute drive to Sommières, a picturesque town on the Vidourle River, with a very nice Saturday morning market. Make a stop at the Tourist Bureau (Office du Tourism) to get a map and information about activities. There is a cinema and a number of restaurants. If you come for a few days, on vacation, we’d like to suggest the following activities:
